General Information
RUNX (Runt-related transcription factor) family members play important roles in normal developmental processes and carcinogenesis. Of the three known RUNX family members, the ubiquitously expressed RUNX3 is involved in neurogenesis, T cell differentiation, tumorigenesis and is a component of the TGF-β induced tumor suppressor pathway. In gastric cancer cells, RUNX3 induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis through upregulation of Bim, a proapoptotic BH3-only protein. In addition, RUNX3 is frequently inactivated in gastric cancer cells.
