IL-35 (interleukin-35) is a heterodimeric cytokine from the IL-12 family composed of EBI3 (Epstein-Barr virus-induced gene 3 protein; EBV-induced gene 3 protein; IL-27B; IL-27 subunit β) and IL-12A (IL-12 subunit p35) involved in T cell regulation. IL-35 is highly expressed in regulatory T cell (Treg) but not in effector or naive T cells. IL-35 is required for the suppressive function of T-reg in vitro and in vivo.

ILEI (Interleukin-like EMT-inducer, also called FAM3C) is a new secreted cytokine-like protein of 25 kDa that has structural homology to four-helix-bundle cytokines such as erythropoietin, growth hormone or interleukin members. Recently, ILEI has been identified as a key player in epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), in carcinoma progression as well as in metastasis which acts downstream of TGFβ receptor signaling. ILEI expression is increased in many carcinomas and could serve as an independent prognostic marker in breast cancer. ILEI is also secreted by pancreatic cancer cells.

The Netrins (whose name means “one who guides” in Sanskrit) constitute a family of laminin-related secreted proteins. They are involved in axonal guidance, are required for regeneration and maintenance of the central nervous system and have been implicated in the development of mammary gland, lung, pancreas, and blood vessels. Netrin-4 acts during the development and controls the migration of neurons. It promotes angiogenesis by stimulating proliferation and migration of microvascular endothelial and has been reported to be a novel prognostic marker in breast cancer.

WIPI-1 (WD-repeat protein interacting with phosphoinosides) is highly expressed in a variety of tumors. It interacts with phosphatidylinositol-3-P and this interaction is required for recruitment to membranes. Collectrin is a homolog of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2). It has an apparent signal peptide and a transmembrane domain but lacks active dipeptidyl carboxypeptidase catalytic domains.
